the short version.

Everything below says this at length. If the two ever disagree, the long version wins.

  1. Save The Date is free for good. Everything else a couple buys is paid once, and is theirs for that wedding.
  2. Planners pay monthly or yearly and can cancel at any time. Access runs to the end of the period paid for.
  3. Changed your mind? Full refund within 48 hours, then half back for a while. Domains are refunded by us, by hand.
  4. Guests never pay, for anything.
  5. What you upload stays yours. We only use it to run your wedding.
  6. The law of England and Wales applies, and your rights as a consumer always stand.

About these terms

In short These terms are the deal between you and us. You agree to them when you open an account.

Build The Day ("we", "us") runs buildtheday.com, the app at app.buildtheday.com and the wedding websites made with it. These terms apply to couples, to wedding planners and their teams, and to anyone a couple or planner invites to help.

You accept them when you open an account, and we keep a record of which version you accepted. Our privacy policy explains what we do with personal data, and planners also agree to our data processing agreement.

If you buy as a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away the rights the law gives you.

Your account

In short Be 16 or over, tell us the truth, keep your password to yourself.

  • You must be 16 or over to open an account.
  • Give us a real name and an email address you read. We send receipts and important notices there.
  • Keep your password private. Each person who helps should have their own login: invite them as a collaborator rather than sharing yours.
  • You are responsible for what happens in your account, including what your collaborators do in the weddings you share with them.
  • Tell us straight away at [email protected] if you think someone else has got in.

Save The Date is free

In short No card, no trial, no end date.

Save The Date is our free plan. It is not a trial and it does not run out: a wedding website at a buildtheday address, 75 guests, 3 events with their own replies, a 500 MB photo gallery and one email campaign. You can use it for as long as your account is open.

Paying once

In short Couples pay once, never monthly. What you buy unlocks for the wedding you bought it for, for good.

What couples can buyPrices in pounds as at 17 October 2026. The checkout always shows the final figure before you pay.
TierPriceWhat it is
Save The Date£0Free for good. 75 guests, 3 events, your website at a buildtheday address.
The Invitation£22Once. 150 guests, all 5 email campaigns, your own questions, the full theme editor.
The Ceremony£85Once. 300 guests, your own domain connected, seating, meals, guest photos.
The Day£119Once. Unlimited guests, every feature, 2 GB of storage.
Add-onsfrom £3Once each. Any single feature, for the wedding you buy it for.

What you own

Each tier holds everything in the one before it. A tier or add-on is bought for one wedding and stays unlocked on that wedding with no renewal and nothing to cancel. Payments are taken by Stripe.

Moving up

You can move up to a higher tier at any time. If you already own some of what is in it, half of what those things are worth inside the tier comes off, up to 70% of the price, and the checkout shows the figure before you pay. You cannot move down: the only way back is a refund inside the window in section 7.

The things that do repeat

Two things a couple can buy are recurring, and both are about space and addresses, not features: extra storage paid monthly, and the yearly renewal of a domain bought through us. Each shows its price and how often it is charged before you agree, and each can be stopped at any time from your billing page. Fixed storage passes, such as the £12 Wedding Week Pass for 3 months, are paid once and simply end.

Domains bought through us

In short The domain is registered in your name. You pay the first year once, then it renews each year until you turn renewal off.

Connecting a domain you already own is the £18 custom domain add-on, paid once. If you buy a new domain through us, we register it in your name with our registrar, Openprovider, and connect it to your website. You pay the first year at checkout, and from then on it renews yearly on a subscription. We email you the renewal price before each renewal.

Turn renewal off at any time from your billing page and the domain stays yours until it expires. Because a registration cannot be undone once it is made, domains are not refunded from the billing page. If something has gone wrong, write to us and we will look at it by hand.

Planner subscriptions

In short Every feature on every wedding you run, monthly or yearly, with 30 days free first. Cancel any time and it stops at the end of the period.

Planner plansA year costs ten months. Every plan starts with a 30 day free trial.
PlanA monthA yearActive weddings
Planner Starter£29£2903 active weddings
Planner Pro£59£59010 active weddings
Planner Agency£99£990Unlimited active weddings
  • The trial. We take your card at sign up and charge nothing for 30 days. Cancel before day 30 and you pay nothing.
  • Renewal. Your plan renews each month or year on the same date until you cancel.
  • Cancelling. Cancel from your billing page at any time. Your plan runs to the end of the period you have paid for, then stops. We do not refund part of a period.
  • If a payment fails. We email you and Stripe tries again. If it cannot take payment, the plan ends.
  • When a plan ends. Your account moves to the free plan. Your weddings stay yours, but the free plan allows one active wedding and free features only, so the couples you manage lose paid features at the same moment. Tell them before you cancel.
  • Your couples pay nothing for weddings you run on a plan.

Refunds

In short Not using something for your wedding? Refund it yourself from your billing page. The sooner you ask, the more comes back.

Within 48 hours of paying
Your money back in full.
After that, for a while
Half back. The window is a quarter of the days between paying and your wedding, and never more than 30 days.
Once the window closes
No self-serve refund. Write to us if something has gone wrong.
After the wedding day
No refunds on what was bought for that wedding.

An example

£85 paid on 1 March 2027.

The Ceremony, for a wedding on 5 June 2027. That is 96 days away, so the half refund window is a quarter of that: 24 days.

£85 back1 to 3 Marchthe first 48 hours
£42.50 back3 to 25 Marchhalf, for 24 days
no self-serve refundfrom 25 Marchwrite to us if something went wrong
  • A refund removes the feature. A refund, full or half, is for something you will not use, so it switches off on your wedding as soon as the money goes back.
  • Free and promotional items cannot be refunded, because nothing was paid.
  • Domains and storage subscriptions are not refunded from the billing page. Write to us.
  • Planner subscriptions are not refunded for a period that has started. Cancel to stop the next one.
  • Refunds go back to the card you paid with, usually within 5 to 10 working days, depending on your bank.

Your right to cancel

The law usually gives you 14 days to cancel an online purchase. For digital features you can use straight away, that right ends once you ask us to unlock the feature at once and agree that it ends, which the checkout asks you to do. Our refund rules above apply in its place, and they often give more back than the law requires.

Guests never pay

In short Replying, choosing a meal, uploading a photo, playing a game: all free, always, for every guest.

Guests do not need an account and never see a price. If a couple's wedding goes over its guest limit, the website pauses for guests until the couple moves up. We never ask a guest to pay to get in.

What you upload

In short Your words, photos and guest list stay yours. You let us store and show them only so your wedding works.

You keep every right in what you and your guests upload. You give us permission to store it, copy it as needed to run the service, and show it to the people you choose, such as your guests on your website, for as long as it is in your account. That permission ends when you delete it, apart from copies in backups that expire on their own.

Only upload what you have the right to use, and only add guests whose details you are allowed to share with us. Photographers often own the photos they take for you, so check before you post their work.

Your website may show a small "made with buildtheday." line at the foot. The Day removes it. We will not use your wedding in our marketing unless you say yes first.

Using it fairly

In short Use Build The Day to plan weddings and talk to your guests. Nothing else.

  • Only email people on your guest list, about your wedding. No marketing to strangers, no bought lists.
  • No unlawful, hateful, explicit or misleading content, on your website or in guest uploads you approve.
  • No attempts to break in, scrape, overload or copy the service, and no reselling it.
  • No pretending to be someone else, or to be us.

If you break these rules we may remove the content, pause your website or close your account. Unless it is serious or urgent, we will tell you first and give you the chance to put it right.

After the day

In short You choose how long your website stays up afterwards, from 3 to 24 months, and when your guests' details are wiped.

From the day after your wedding, your account offers to keep your website up for 3, 6, 12 or 24 months, or close it now. We remind you 30 days and 7 days before it closes, and you can reopen it free until 24 months after the wedding. A wipe deletes your guests' details for good, so download anything you want to keep first. The privacy policy sets out exactly what a wipe removes.

Our service

In short We work hard to keep it running, especially on your wedding day, but we cannot promise it never stops.

We aim to keep Build The Day available all day, every day, and plan maintenance away from weekends in the wedding season. Sometimes it will be unavailable for reasons outside our control, such as a supplier's outage or the venue's internet. For the day itself, print what matters most: the seating plan, the order of the day and the menu.

We improve the service all the time. If we remove or materially reduce a feature you have paid for, we will tell you in advance and offer a fair refund for what you lose.

Liability

In short If we let you down we will put it right, up to what you have paid us. Some things the law never lets us limit, and we do not try to.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

Otherwise, we are not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have foreseen, for losses caused by things outside our control, or, for planners, for lost profit, business or revenue. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before it arose.

Build The Day is a planning tool. The venue, caterer, photographer and every other supplier are responsible for their own services, and we are not a party to your contracts with them.

Ending your account

In short Leave whenever you like. We only close an account for a serious reason, and we tell you why.

You can delete your account from your settings at any time. Any planner subscription is cancelled with no refund for the current period. Download what you want to keep first. How long we keep data after you leave is set out in the privacy policy.

We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Unless the law or the risk to others stops us, we will give you notice and time to download your data.

Changes to these terms

In short We tell you 30 days before anything important changes. What you have already bought stays bought.

We may update these terms as the service and the law change. For an important change, we email you at least 30 days before it takes effect, and ask you to accept the new version next time you sign in. If you do not accept it, you can close your account before it applies. A change never takes away a feature you already own.

Law and disputes

In short English law. Talk to us first. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can use your own courts.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your own courts. Please talk to us first: most problems are fixed with one email.

Contact

In short Email us. A real person replies.

Write to [email protected] about anything in these terms, a refund or a payment. For anything about personal data, our data protection lead answers, as the privacy policy explains.
